Occupational Therapy

As Occupational Therapists our main focus is enabling participation in meaningful occupations

Occupations are things we do everyday, a child’s occupations could include:

• Dressing
• Washing
• Eating
• Handwriting
• Playing
• Riding a bike
• Swimming
• Playground games
• Using scissors

Lots of factors could prevent a child from participating in the occupations they want to, these could include:

• Difficulty manipulating objects
• Reduced hand strength
• Balance difficulties
• Coordination difficulties
• Poor attention
• Difficulties with sensory integration
• Learning or understanding of the task
• Motivation or interest

As an Occupational Therapist I can complete a comprehensive assessment of these factors but the main focus and goal should always be the occupation that the child wants to engage in.

Another important factor is problem solving; it has been shown that if a child is given the opportunity to discover and learn how to problem solve an activity themself, they are more likely to remember it and be more independent. Problem solving techniques are  embedded throughout all intervention and assessment sessions.

Assessments offered:
